Exercise 2.1

Solve the following equations.

Q1. `x-2=7`

Solution :

`x-2=7`

Add `2` on both sides.

`x-2+2=7+2`

`x=9`

Answer :

`x=9`

Q2. `y+3=10`

Solution :

`y+3=10`

Subtract `3` on both sides.

`y+3-3=10-3`

`y=7`

Answer :

`y=7`

Q3. `6=z+2`

Solution :

`6=z+2`

Subtract `2` on both sides.

`6-2=z+2-2`

`4=z`

Answer :

`z=4`

Q4. `3/7+x=(17)/7`

Solution :

`3/7+x=(17)/7`

Subtract `3/7` on both sides.

`3/7+x-3/7=17/7-3/7`

`x=(17-3)/7`

`x=14/7`

`x=2`

Answer :

`x=2`

Q5. `6x=12`

Solution :

`6x=12`

Dividing both sides by `6`.

`(6x)/6=12/6`

`x=2`

Answer :

`x=2` 

Q6. `t/5=10`

Solution :

`t/5=10`

Multiply `5` on both sides.

`(t times5)/5=10times5`

`t=50`

Answer :

`t=50`

Q7. `(2x)/3=18`

Solution :

`(2x)/3=18`

Multiply `3` on both sides.

`(2xtimes3)/3=18times3`

`2x=18times3`

Dividing both sides by `2`

`(2x)/2=(18times3)/2`

`x=9times3`

`x=27`

 Answer :

`x=27`

Q8. `1.6=y/1.5`

Solution :

`1.6=y/1.5`

Multiply `1.5` on both sides.

`1.6times1.5=(ytimes1.5)/1.5`

`y=2.4`

Answer : 

`y=2.4`

Q9.`7x-9=16`

Solution :

`7x-9=16`

Add `9` on both sides.

`7x-9+9=16+9`

`7x=25`

Dividing both sides by `7`.

`(7x)/7=25/7`

`x=25/7`

Answer :

`x=25/7` 

Q10. `14y-8=13`

Solution :

`14y-8=13`

Add `8` on both sides.

`14y-8+8=13+8`

`14y=21`

Dividing both sides by `14`.

`(14y)/14=21/14`

`y=3/2` 

Answer :

`y=3/2` 

Q11. `17+6p=9`

Solution :

`17+6p=9`

Subtract `17` on both sides.

`17-17+6p=9-17`

`6p=-8`

Dividing both sides by `6`.

`(6p)/6=-8/6`

`p=-4/3`

Answer :

`p=-4/3` 

Q12. `x/3+1=7/15`

Solution :

`x/3+1=7/15`

Subtract `1` on both sides.

`x/3+1-1=7/15-1`

`x/3=(7-15)/15`

`x/3=-8/15`

Multiply `3` on both sides.

`(xtimes3)/3=(-8times3)/15`

`x=-8/5` 

Answer :

`x=-8/5`
